Tottenham 5 Leicester City 4: Kane and Lamela at the double in Premier League classic

Harry Kane and Erik Lamela each scored twice as Tottenham beat Leicester City 5-4 to sign off from their stay at Wembley with a pulsating end-of-season Premier League classic.

England striker Kane cancelled out Jamie Vardy s early opener, but goals from Riyad Mahrez and Kelechi Iheanacho had the Foxes 3-1 ahead two minutes after the break.

Lamela inspired the fightback by twice finishing from Kyle Walker-Peters assists, and it was the Argentine s strike that forced an own goal from Christian Fuchs to put Spurs in front by the hour mark.

Vardy s expertly taken second appeared to have earned Leicester a remarkable point, but England team-mate Kane had the last word to seal a scarcely believable three points with his 11th Premier League goal against Leicester more t…

Arteta is prepared to make that next jump – Emery backs his successor to be a hit at Arsenal.

Unai Emery believes his Arsenal replacement Mikel Arteta will make a successful transition into life as a head coach.

Arsenal confirmed Arteta had signed a three-and-a-half-year deal on Friday, three weeks after sacking Emery and temporarily replacing him with Freddie Ljungberg.

Arteta has worked as assistant to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City since July 2016, but Emery is confident the ex-Gunners captain can become a notable boss in his own right.

He really is prepared to make that next jump, he told BBC Sport. He has been at Arsenal before, he s been in the Premier League and he has been working with Pep Guardiola.

I do believe this is a good decision and I would also like it to be a good decision.

Under follows Zaniolo by committing to Roma

Roma have successfully tied talented winger Cengiz Under down to a new contract until 2023, a day after securing Nicolo Zaniolo s long-term future.

Under, 22, joined Roma from Istanbul Basaksehir in 2017 and enjoyed a promising first campaign, helping the Serie A club to the Champions League semi-finals and third place domestically.

He struggled to build on that early encouragement last season, seeing his goal haul drop from seven to three in 2018-19, as Roma endured a turbulent season on and off the pitch.

Nevertheless, the Turkey international is expected to play a bigger role under new coach Paulo Fonseca in 2019-20, with sporting director Gianluca Petrachi a believer in Under.

Another new deal agreed has signed a contract extension with that runs u…

Bitesize Prediction: Newcastle vs Watford – 15/01/22

Market: Over 1.5 goals

Odds: 4/11 @

In what is a real relegation six-pointer this weekend, Newcastle will welcome Watford to St. James Park on Saturday afternoon for what could be a nervy affair.

Starting with the hosts, crashing out of the FA Cup at the hands of League One outfit Cambridge last weekend, there is no doubt that Newcastle find themselves in the midst of a nightmare. While Eddie Howe s side might have managed to bring a couple of new arrivals through the door at St. James Park, the Magpies are still battling it out in the drop zone. Coming under more scrutiny for their woeful display on home soil last time out, the former Bournemouth boss has failed to hand his new squad much of a boost. Despite grabbing a point against Manchester United when signi…

Ballon d´Or: Lionel Messi unsure if his record haul can be beaten after seventh crown

Lionel Messi is not sure if his record will be broken after the Paris Saint-Germain and Argentina superstar won a seventh Ballon d Or on Monday.

Messi claimed the coveted award for a record-extending seventh time during a ceremony in Paris, while Bayern Munich talisman Robert Lewandowski won the inaugural Striker of the Year award and finished second in the Ballon d Or voting.

Many had backed Lewandowski to take home the prized individual honour, after France Football s 2020 Ballon d Or was scrapped due to COVID-19 – the Bayern forward has scored 53 goals in 42 appearances in 2021, the most of any player in Europe s top five leagues across all competitions.

But Messi added to his incredible haul after guiding Argentina to a drought-ending triumph at the Copa A…

Martino dismisses Messi worries

Barcelona coach Gerardo Martino is not worried by Lionel Messi s lack of goals in recent games.

The Argentina international has added just one to his tally in four matches since returning from a thigh injury.

But Martino insists that Messi is judged by higher standards than anyone else, meaning even a small run without a goal is made out to be something much worse.

And he has backed the current holder of the Ballon d Or to get on the scoresheet again soon, praising his mental strength.

With Leo, he is expected to score goals in every game and if he he doesn t score every game then people say he has problems, Martino said.

He played very well against Celta and just because of circumstances he didn t score. It is not a crisis, it is just what happens but I d…

Southgate will not rush England decision as family Christmas break beckons

Gareth Southgate is not planning to rush into a decision about his England future before Christmas, insisting he has few regrets about the Three Lions World Cup campaign.

Southgate s team suffered a heartbreaking quarter-final exit against world champions France on Saturday, with Harry Kane missing a late penalty after scoring an earlier spot-kick.

The England boss said he would take time to ensure he made the correct decision on his own future in the aftermath of the 2-1 defeat, with his contract set to expire after Euro 2024.

He then hinted an immediate decision was unlikely in an interview with England s media channels on Sunday, adding he was struggling to see where the Three Lions went wrong.

There will be standard debriefing sessions with the Footba…

Milan reveal Kaka talks

Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has admitted that the club are in talks with wantaway Real Madrid midfielder Kaka.

Kaka, 31, expressed a desire to leave the Spanish capital on Thursday after struggling to become a permanent member of Real s first team.

The Brazilian – who played for Milan between 2003 and 2009 – is reportedly keen on a return to the Serie A giants.

Galliani, who ruled out a potential return for the playmaker in June, confessed to being in talks with him on Friday.

Galliani also confirmed that Milan are trying to sign CSKA Moscow s Keisuke Honda and that both of them coming to the club would be unlikely.

It is complicated at this time, Galliani told Milannews.it.

We are closer to signing Keisuke Honda than Kaka and a deal for…

Fonseca vows to keep fighting

Porto coach Paulo Fonseca insists he will keep fighting after his team s first home league loss in over five years.

A 78th-minute penalty from Evandro saw Estoril to an upset 1-0 win at the Estadio do Dragao, where Porto had been unbeaten in the Primeira Liga since October 2008.

The end of the 81-match unbeaten league run at home saw Porto stay third, four points behind leaders Benfica, who have a game in hand.

In a television interview after the game, Fonseca, whose team were jeered off, said he would speak to the president about his future.

But in his post-match news conference, Fonseca said his side would continue fighting despite their first home league loss since October 2008.

If this game had gone as usual, FC Porto would have won, he said.

on Tuesday.

The Portuguese champions found it difficult to get through their visitors’ defence for much of the match, but Jackson Martinez did give them the lead with an excellent header.

Chelsea were the last side to defeat Porto at Estadio Dragao in November 2009 and that run came to an end in the second half as Diego Godin and Arda Turan hit the goals.

The hosts made just two changes from their weekend 1-0 win over Vitoria Guimaraes as Lica and Juan Fernando Quintero dropped to the bench in favour of the more experienced Steven Defour and Silvestre Varela.

Atletico picked up their first league victory over Real Madrid since 1999 at the…
