Timothy Weah: I want to play for Milan – it´s in my family history

Lille forward Timothy Weah hopes to play for Milan in the future because it is part of his family history .

Weah s father George spent five seasons at Milan in the 1990s, winning two Serie A titles and becoming the first – and still only – African player to win the Ballon d Or.

The 21-year-old would love to emulate his dad and represent the Rossoneri, though he insists his primary concern is to impress for Ligue 1 champions Lille.

Of course I am focused on Lille, but it has always been my ambition to one day play in a great league like Serie A and, in particular, for a big club like Milan, which is part of my family history after all, he told La Gazzetta dello Sport s Sportweek.

[My dad] never talks about it openly, but when I was a child, t…

Tigres UANL 2-1 Los Angeles FC: Mexican side claim first CONCACAF Champions League title

Tigres UANL ended the club s wait for CONCACAF Champions League glory, claiming their first title at the expense of Los Angeles FC in the final.

CONCACAF Champions League silverware had eluded Tigres, who were runners-up in 2016, 2017 and 2019.

But Tigres finally got their hands on the Champions League trophy thanks to Tuesday s come-from-behind 2-1 victory over LAFC.

Diego Rossi s 61st-minute opener for LAFC was cancelled out by Hugo Ayala 11 minutes later before Andre-Pierre Gignac netted the winner with six minutes remaining as Tigres secured their place at February s Club World Cup in Qatar.

United v City: Solskjaer out to correct Manchester derby record

Manchester City will be crowned Premier League champions again if they win all their remaining matches, but rivals Manchester United will hope to stop them doing that on Wednesday.

City s game in hand looks set to be the decisive fixture in the title race, with Liverpool once more moving two points clear of Pep Guardiola s men thanks to Sunday s 2-0 win at Cardiff City.

United have a mediocre record in Manchester derbies since the 2013 retirement of legendary manager Alex Ferguson, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer s side are in poor form having lost six of their past eight games in all competitions.

Wednesday s meeting at Old Trafford would be the ideal time for the Red Devils to get back to winning ways, putting a large dent in City s title chances in the process, al…

Fulham clinch Premier League return in win over Preston

Fulham earned a third promotion to the Premier League in five seasons with their 3-0 win over Preston North End on Tuesday.

All three goals came in the first half at Craven Cottage in what became a routine game, with Aleksandar Mitrovic opening the scoring in only the ninth minute.

Fabio Carvalho doubled the margin, before Mitrovic added another before half-time.

The Cottagers have earned a yo-yo reputation for bouncing between the Premier League and Championship in recent years.

They were promoted in 2018 and swiftly relegated, before going up again in 2020 and coming straight back down once more.

Biglia announces international retirement

Lucas Biglia has announced his retirement from international football in the wake of Argentina s elimination from the World Cup.

The Albiceleste was defeated 4-3 by France after a thrilling knockout match in Kazan, despite leading 2-1 early in the second half.

The 32-year-old played 58 times for his country after debuting in 2011, but was an unused substitute against Les Bleus, and hopes the next generation of players can take Argentina back to the top.

“We had our best performance up until going 2-1 up, Biglia told Fox Sports.

This is football. We leave with great sadness, because it is the end of the road for some of us. I hope that those who follow can work with less pressure and take Argentina to where it deserves to be.

Cafu expected more from Neymar

Brazil World Cup winner Cafu conceded Neymar s performances in Russia fell short of expectations, but claimed the Paris Saint-Germain forward remains the country s greatest revelation in the last 10 years .

After recovering from a metatarsal injury just in time to make the trip to Russia, Neymar scored twice in five games as Brazil were knocked out by Belgium in the quarter-finals, though he was roundly criticised in the media for his histrionic reactions to challenges.

Cafu, who is Brazil s most capped player with 142 appearances for the Selecao, admitted that Neymar failed to live up to his billing as one of the potential stars of the tournament, but backed the 26-year-old to overcome the disappointment.

We all expect a lot from the ace,  Cafu told Glob…

Bielsa´s time at Leeds comes to an end after Tottenham defeat

Leeds United have parted ways with Marcelo Bielsa, in the wake of their 4-0 thrashing by Tottenham on Saturday.

The defeat came at the end of a dire week in which Leeds suffered a 4-2 home defeat to rivals Manchester United and a 6-0 hammering by Liverpool at Anfield, leaving them mired in a battle to retain their Premier League status.

Leeds are winless in six Premier League matches since beating West Ham United in mid-January, having lost five of those games, conceding 21 goals, meaning fan favourite Bielsa s reign has been brought to an end, after over three-and-a-half seasons in the Elland Road dugout.

The news was confirmed on Sunday in a statement released on the club s official website.

This has been the toughest decision I have had to make durin…

Bayern must spend big to stay competitive – Lewandowski calls for new signings

Robert Lewandowski urged Bayern Munich to make more signings if the Bundesliga giants want to remain competitive and win the Champions League.

Bayern head into the 2019-20 season as seven-time reigning Bundesliga holders but without Champions League success since 2013.

The German champions have already signed World Cup-winning French duo Lucas Hernandez (€80million) and Benjamin Pavard (€35m) following the departures of Franck Ribery, Arjen Robben, Mats Hummels, Rafinha and James Rodriguez.

But star striker Lewandowski insisted Bayern must splash the cash in their ongoing pursuit of domestic and European glory.

.: I can say that we re in good spot regarding my contract extension. I feel great in Munich. I enjoy living and playing in this city.“
